Builders of the open supply group Freenode are quitting en masse after Andrew Lee, a tech entrepreneur and the Crown Prince of Korea, has taken management of the community in what builders are describing as an “hostile takeover.”
On Wednesday, a dozen Freenode workers volunteers revealed posts asserting their resignations, which clarify their determination to give up. The broad strokes of the letters clarify that they imagine Lee purchased your complete Freenode community beneath what they imagine are false—however authorized—pretenses, and that they’ve misplaced management over the community. They mentioned there may be little the workers can do to oppose adjustments that Lee desires to implement.
The now former workers members introduced that they’re launching a brand new chat community, Libera.chat, to proceed Freenode’s mission.
I didn’t have this on my 2021 bingo card.
